    Or make money?

We've got them here. I'm sure it makes good money - Mrs. Phibes got dinged in a school zone that wasn't very well marked.

Not something I'm particularly excited about, TBH. It might even help keep my taxes down.

Towns get dependent on the revenue and start cranking up their use, or making them more sensitive.

Waze knows where they are and verbally warns you. You don’t even need to set it up to give directions, just open the app while driving and it will tell you when you’re approaching one. I use that feature pretty often.

It didn't seem to. I guess repeat offences could well do.

Their use is rampant in the UK, and pretty much everybody has a story about being unfairly fined. I narrowly escaped as they couldn't be bothered following up on my US drivers license.

Having said that, there does seem to have been an impact on people's driving. People are a lot more circumspect - back in the day the Brits frequently drove like maniacs.

I use Waze, too. I'm a little surprised they're allowed to do what they do.

If it slows you down, then the purpose is served.

Not here because the infraction is against the vehicle not the driver. The municipality only has a date and time stamped photo record of the rear license plate of the vehicle. It does not know who was behind the wheel.

I checked, and they don't here in Rhode Island, either. Presumably for the same reason. If you get pulled over by a cop, then it can affect your premiums.

The fines for speed cameras are only $50 for 1st and second offence, and then $95.
