Other than a couple of joints, the finger joint and the keyed dovetail, everything is hand cut. Japanese tools (which I don't see being used here) are by far the most precise for that kind of work.
The Japanese approach to tools is to do more with less. Japanese chisels, for example, are typically hollowed out along the flat edge, so as to make sharpening easier and faster. Japanese saws cut on the pull stroke, and can be thinner because they don't experience the stress of being pushed through wood.
