Funny, Lucas and I were talking about the historical impact of the sugar trade and the spice trade while we were preparing Thanksgiving dinner. Spices that we take for granted today used to cost unbelievable amounts of money 200-300 years ago.

If the allegations are true, do you agree with banning sugar from this company?
(Or, when is human rights more important than cheap product? (or vice versa?))

How will we monitor it? How will the shut off affect the people we are trying to help? Can we replace their product from other suppliers, and are those suppliers any better? Is this a real step in a more moral direction or is it just grandstanding while bringing no real change?

I bet a lot of people said quite a bit of that stuff when people wanted to abolish slavery in the US and elsewhere.
It's not clear to me that Biden is doing the wrong thing here, but none of us really have enough information to make that call.

@Jolly the key difference between the past and the present is that changing one of them actually makes a concrete difference. Admittedly, changing the other one might be easier.
Incidentally, according to Google, those young lads are working in Pittsburgh. We had our own coal mines.

I was questioning in general terms. There is a line at which people/governments will ban a company, regardless of the economic cost. Has that been reached with the sugar company? I am not sure.
