That's one of the things that gets me about organized religion.

Are member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church condemned to eternal hell because they don't subscribe to the stricter tenet of the Lutheran Church Misery Missouri Synod?

I remember being in the 4th (or 5th) grade, with the nuns telling me that all Jews are going to hell because they don't accept Jesus as their savior.

    Jesus...

And don't get me started on the Mormons.

And don't get me started on the Mormons.

No problem, they have their place - granted, it’s on Ancient Aliens.

But I digress. When I hear the words organized religion or church, synagogue, mosque or temple, I also hear the word, money. Specifically, my money.

    Elbows up!

You're conflating them with the Scientologists, LOL.

      Excellent point because, Scientologists, again.

Note, I gave them the courtesy of capitalizing the name.

Well, some folks may look at it that way, but much of the good in the world is done by many churches banding together.

          True.

In a larger sense, however, why the schisms? If one branch condemns another because it's "heathen", what makes one right, and the other wrong?

Are these not the judgments of men, and not of God?

In this case, you have churches accepting and condoning sin as good.

Simply put, that's wrong and not to be tolerated. While all are welcome in the church, they are welcome in the fact that we are all sinners, striving to do better. Don't walk in the church, tell me your sin is acceptable and we'll just have to deal with it.

I'm old enough to remember church trials within the Methodist church. They're fair, effective and rare. But they accomplish what they are meant to do.

I get that as well. I haven't looked at ELCA, but the Presbyterians have accepted homosexual marriage. I doubt any traditional Lutherans would.

ELCA will accept women pastors. LCMS will not. I don't see either the acceptance or refusal as sinful.

As for some of the other questions, there's a doctoral thesis in there, somewhere.

Why schisms and differences in denominations? Disagreements over small stuff. But when you shake it out, protestant churches are very similar in the vast majority of doctrine. When two churches disagree, go to the matresses...The Bible is the final authority. In the case of gay marriage and homosexuality, it's very clear.

                It's wrong. A sin. Period.

Cones down to how you view the Bible. Is it a story book? Is it a book of suggestions? Is it the inerrant Word of God?

If the latter, no women pastors. And since sin is a violation of the Will of God, I think spitting in God's eye on that one would be considered a sin.

That's one of the things that gets me about organized religion.

Are member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church condemned to eternal hell because they don't subscribe to the stricter tenet of the Lutheran Church Misery Missouri Synod?

And don't get me started on the Mormons.

Well that explains some of the problems…

I can’t speak for Catholicism, and will leave it up to @Aqua-Letifer , but my brand of Protestantism doesn’t look at it that way. Jews aren’t condemned to hell because they don’t accept Jesus Christ… We’re all condemned to hell. Period. It’s our own flawed nature… It’s only by the Grace of God that we can be lifted up, and to receive that Grace you do need to accept it.

There is a world of difference between somebody being condemned because they refuse to acknowledge the Christ and saying that all men are condemned, but some sadly don’t accept or believe the salvation before them.

Yeah, you really shouldn't do that, though. I'm no expert on Catholicism and I'm also not keen on presuming I could speak for God on matters of judgment.

But as far as the Jews go, I'm going to judge the everloving shit out of this one pizza shop close to the Rockville Guitar Center. Not exactly a deal in terms of price but I deem their pies to be bad. Ass. You'll likely be the only goy in the joint but totally worth the trip.

                            Please love yourself.

The saying, "Lite is just one damn thing after another," is a gross understatement. The damn things overlap.

Just ask yourself this simple question. Do you want to spend eternity with a bunch of people who clap on the downbeat?

                                  I was only joking

I think it is always interesting (or maybe funny), when there is a sports event for something like that in the US, and they interview they interview someone from the winning team.

"I want to thank God for letting us win the game today!!"

What???? Why did god hate the other team? Was he watching and influencing the game?

Yes, you think that God is up there influencing the game?

If he in influencing it, then is the end result already determined? If he wants Team A to win, then it doesn't matter what Team B does. Team A could lay down on the field and they would win, because God said so?

I think that there may be some superior being, but I also think that this being has better things to do than influence a american football game.

Depends on your views on TULIP theology.😄
