Talks about drastically fewer employers screening for GPA, and grade inflation making GPA less meaningful.

Good.
Finally we can admit people who don't understand the Krebs cycle to medical school!

The article says significantly fewer employers screening GPA, it says nothing about graduate schools not screening for GPA.

I’ve never looked at a GPA when hiring somebody in my life

I was on the residency selection committee when I worked at the university. We never looked at that either.
But, the bigger question is not, specifically, the GPA, but whether you have the chops to understand the material taught to you, If you're not smart enough to get it, you have no basis for advancing, or being hired.
It's a filtering process. Someone with a GPA of 1.5 would probably not rise to the level of being considered by people like you (or me). The difference, however, between 3.5 and 3.75 probably doesn't matter.
I'm reminded of a story told by one of my partners.
College student to professor: "I don't know why I need to know calculus. I'm going to medical school and it's useless to me."
Professor: "My calculus course saves lives."
Student: "How is that?"
Professor: "It keeps stupid people out of medical school."

Different line of work.
For mine, even a degree is pretty much worthless. But that's not to say there are no requirements. The bar's different, but it's high and only getting higher.
