There are a handful of folks who pick our kids up from school instead of the kids taking the bus. Over the past few months, some of us have started talking.

There's John, this older guy with us who's not a dad but a grandpa. Seemed a nice enough sort.

Then I learned that he has fifteen grandkids.

And that he lives in Key West.

And that he flies to and from there every week so that he can spend time with his grandkids, because he also has a house up here.

And that his mother-in-law is still alive.

And that she used to live in Ukraine.

And that John used to be in the Marines. (Anti-tank.)

And that early on, when the war started blowing out the buildings in his mother-in-law's neighborhood, John did the following in a particular order I'm not privy to: flew over there, got some guns, got a truck, went through the checkpoints, and got his mother-in-law out. They live together in Key West now.

    He also likes pistachios.

    Please love yourself.

        Very salty, apparently.

Those who cheered as J-6 American prisoners were locked in solitary for 18 months without trial, now suddenly fight tooth and nail for foreign terrorists’ "due process". — Buck Sexton

He's like the first five minutes of an action movie where we get to know the main character, who's settled into a quiet and peaceful life. Until...

          Education is extremely important.

School carpools are a YUGEly worthwhile use of your time. If you just sit back and listen, you will know more about what's happening in their lives than you would ever hear around the dining room table.

Yeah no shit. I'm glad I shared my pistachios with him.

              (Yes, salted.)

Heck of a nice guy. Definitely would not have ever guessed the back story there. He just seemed like, y'know, somebody's grandpa.

                Please love yourself.

He is somebody’s grandpa… I bet if you asked him, that’s what he would tell you…
