I knew the second definition of the noun, known it for years. But...

    bruit | bro͞ot |

    verb [with object and adverbial]

spread (a report or rumor) widely: I didn't want to have our relationship bruited about the office.

    noun
1 archaic a report or rumor: the wildest bruits were greedily credited | [mass noun] : is virtue to be established by common bruit only?
2 Medicine a sound, especially an abnormal one, heard through a stethoscope; a murmur.

    We always pronounced it "Brew-ey."

"Now look here, you Baltic gas passer... " - Mik, 6/14/08

The saying, "Lite is just one damn thing after another," is a gross understatement. The damn things overlap.

It’s the word for “noise” in French and they pronounce it like you do

      Person. Woman. Man. Camera. TV.

Yeah, I knew that, and I've heard lots of carotid bruits.

But, I've never heard it used as a verb like that, with a totally different meaning. Probably different etymologies.
