CT is done by virtually "slicing" through the body, and this cut is just in front of the spine in the chest. That large "blob" shaped thing, just to the left of the spine, is the esophagus.
If you look closer, there's something strange in the esophagus:
They intubated the kid, and took him to the GI lab, where an upper endoscopy was able to retrieve this:
Kind of a big deal, because this toy was so large it was causing an esophageal obstruction, and pushing on the trachea, compromising his breathing.
He's lucky the esophagus didn't perforate - that is a very serious problem.
