I love that word.
I used to work with a guy from South Africa. He pronounced it "CREHT-IN," with the "e" pronounced as in "bet," and the accent on the first syllable.

That is the common pronunciation of the word up here as well. Although from time you hear it pronounced as CREEtin.

Where I grew up, it was "CREE-(hard stop)-IN"
