Cutting the cables in Germany

Russian special services suspected of attacking the railways of Germany
On Saturday, October 8, unknown persons cut fiber-optic cables, which temporarily paralyzed the movement of trains in Berlin and Hern (a city in the west of the country). Because of this, the operation of the GSM-R (Global System for Mobile Communications - Rail) communication system, which provides communication between the control centers that control the movement of trains, was disrupted.
Deutsche Bahn and the Ministry of Transport ruled out the possibility of a routine technical malfunction. The German railway operator called the incident sabotage. "We know that the cables were deliberately cut in two different places in Germany. It is quite clear that this was a deliberate and senseless act," said Transport Minister Volker Wissing.
Chairman of the Bundestag Committee on European Affairs Anton Hofreiter did not rule out that Russia is behind the damage to the infrastructure on the German railway. "To pull this off, you need to know exactly the communication system on the railways. The question is, are we dealing with sabotage by foreign powers?" the politician told Funke Mediengruppe.
Hofreiter recalled the attacks on the Nord Stream pipelines, in which, in his opinion, there is also a trace of the Kremlin. He believes that the state of emergency and sabotage on the German railway is a "warning shot" of Moscow for the support of the West of Ukraine.
Experts also say about the possible involvement of Russia in the latest incident. "It wasn't amateurs, it was done by professionals. The probability that the Russian special services are involved in this is quite high. But, of course, there is no clear evidence. For now, it's still a theory," security expert Peter Neumann told RTL.
