I had no idea there were versions before the Ventures.

    Wow,

And yeah, Chet Atkins is a master.

And yeah, what the HELL is that Herb Alpert version all about??

The saying, "Lite is just one damn thing after another," is a gross understatement. The damn things overlap.

My favourite cover of the tune remains The Seldom Scene with the late, great Mike Auldridge on Dobro. I had the pleasure of seeing them perform this set live at the local Folk Festival here back in about 1990 or ‘91.

That made me wonder, did that version kill the trumpet?

There used to be plenty of famous trumpeters.

Louis Armstrong, Harry James, Dizzy Gillespie, Miles Davis, Doc Severinsen, Wynton Marsalis

Then we got Al Hirt and Herb Albert and it seems that put an end to it.

@Renauda OK, that was pretty good. The "fancy picking'" stuff in the beginning is pretty cool as well.

I'd never heard this tune until I heard The Ventures cover their own hit with "Walk, Don't Run, '64."

I've read that The Ventures were really big in Japan once they faded from the limelight here.

I also loved their version of "Slaughter on 10th Avenue"

You could say that about every single thing he recorded.

            I was only joking
