I know it doesn't answer the question of whether the vaccine mandates were "morally" okay, but the Supreme Court said that they were "legally" okay for health care workers.

Great. We can also discuss the morality/legality of the mandates from 14 months ago on the military and police.
Instead, why don’t we discuss the efficacy, do you believe that kicking this man out of the Coast Guard NEXT MONTH will save a single life? Do you believe that mandating vaccines at this point of time really helps?

At this point, absolutely not. At the time it happened with what was known, that maybe is different. Hard to say.
Science is always changing, or at least updating based on new knowledge. Policies, etc. need to change and update based on the latest information.

That’s my point. He is STILL active duty. He is not getting the boot until next month.

@LuFins-Dad I agree. What may have been good 2 years ago may not be necessary now. Things change.

Sorry, but TPTB knew at the time they put this mandate in place that A) the vaccine does not prevent COVID infection, and B) the mortality rate for active duty personnel would be lower than the general populance of the same age, which was infinitesimal.
So no, they didn't follow the science. That argument is laughable.
The mandate for this subsection of the population was about control and politics. Nothing more.

A) the vaccine does not prevent COVID infection,
I would disagree with this part. I am not sure that I have heard that the vaccine would prevent COVID, but rather that it would make the symptoms/sickness less. And I think this has been proven to be correct.

@Jolly Hmm. Good question. I am not sure if someone has Alzheimers, can they lie?

“You’re not going to get COVID if you have these vaccinations.”
THE PRESIDENT: Well, the virus — look, here’s the — it’s real simple: We have a pandemic for those who haven’t gotten a vaccination. It’s that basic, that simple. Ten thousand people have recently died; 9,950 of them, thereabouts, are people who hadn’t been vaccinated.
There’s a simple, basic proposition: If you’re vaccinated, you’re not going to be hospitalized, you’re not going to be in an ICU unit, and you’re not going to die....
But again, one last thing. I — we don’t talk enough to you about this, I don’t think. One last thing that’s really important is: We’re not in a position where we think that any virus — including the Delta virus, which is much more transmissible and more deadly in terms of non — unvaccinated people — the vi- — the various shots that people are getting now cover that. They’re — you’re okay. You’re not going to — you’re not going to get COVID if you have these vaccinations
Note: Politi'fact' rates this as "Half True."

The very premise of a vaccine mandate is that the vaccine is effective against spread. The whole point of the mandate is public health, or preventing spread.

Exactly, and I think that the vaccine accomplishes this.
I think that statistics show that vaccinated people are less likely to get sick, and if they get sick, less likely to be hospitalized, and if they get hospitalized, less likely to die.

All of that is true. I've been vaxxed twice and boosted thrice, and., thank goodness, I've avoided COVID, afaik.
But that's not what our leadership told us.
"You won't get COVID" is quite different from saying "You won't get as sick from COVID."
CDC chief Rochelle Walensky said earlier this week that “vaccinated people do not carry the virus, don’t get sick.”
Fauci said, “When people are vaccinated, they can feel safe that they are not going to get infected.”

We shouldn't. As I said upstream in this thread, science and knowledge changes. We (generic we) need to change with it.
However, in my opinion, it is something that is very difficult for public figures (for example, politicians) to either A)admit they were wrong or B)just change their mind when new information comes in
