Harmony

I am so jealous of people who can sing harmony as naturally as the melody. I'm reminded of D4's Christening, held at a Lutheran church. Her Godfather picked up the Lutheran hymnal and sang harmony with all the ease imaginable.
Here's John Denver and Cass Eliot - she sings it like the most natural thing in the world.
Link to videoOf course the fact that my voice doesn't have any range doesn't help, LOL.

I came across that video in a FB post.
"Photograph by Mike Kobluk shows John Denver playing a guitar inside a Marina City apartment in 1966. Seated on the sofa are, at left, Denver's wife, Annie, and Bob Hefferan, a guitar accompanist for the Chad Mitchell Trio. Unit 4707, was a one-bedroom apartment in the west tower that Kobluk and his wife, Clare, lived in from 1963 to 1967. In June 1967, Denver and his wife, Annie, took over the Kobluk's lease. He had replaced Chad Mitchell in the trio and they decided to base themselves in Chicago because their agent lived there and at the time, were traveling to college campuses across the country. Imagine having John Denver for a neighbor!"

I've got a two note range. My wife's family sings harmony just as easy as breathing. But there's a couple of reasons for that:
A. They're a musical family. When you grow up with, it's easier.
B. Church. Used to, local churches had singing schools. The Free Methodist church closest to my wife's home was noted many years ago for not allowing families to sit with each other. You were seated with sopranos, altos, baritones or basses, depending on what you sing.Shape notes, mostly out of Heavenly Highways.
It's a shame, but most of those folks have died out and the young people aren't as interested.
