Watching a Netflix show imported from Turkey called "The Protector" - 4 seasons of a godawful show. it is about a man whose family background along with special tools such as an invincibility shirt allow him to fight the evil immortals who are striving for control of Istanbul. I hate just everything about this show - but the Mrs. wishes to watch to its 4 season conclusion. Not recommended.

      On Amazon Prime, The Outlaws.

The story follows seven strangers from different walks of life who are forced together to complete a Community Payback sentence, set in Bristol. However, their luck changes – not necessarily for the better – when they discover a bag full of money, unaware that its true owners are very dangerous.

The only reason I started this is because it has Christopher Walken.

I managed to watch the 1st episode and decided, "Nope, not for me." It's light-hearted, and occasionally a bit funny. It's also a bit serious.

It's fluff, with no substance. Think of it as cotton candy - a sugar rush but not fulfilling or satisfying.

      1 .5 stars.

On HULU: Under the Banner of Heaven

The faith of police detective Jeb Pyre is shaken when investigating the murder of a Latter-day Saint (LDS) mother and her baby daughter that seems to involve the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (Mormon church).

Under the Banner of Heaven is an American true crime drama television miniseries created by Dustin Lance Black based on the nonfiction book of the same name by Jon Krakauer.

Very slow moving, and the story unfolds with flashbacks to the murder as well as to the founding of the LDS.

Exceptionally disturbing. It paints a very unflattering picture of the Mormons - highlighting all the stuff that many would call "weird." The overall theme is the conflict between church and state, and the protagonist begins to question his allegiances.

Someone mentioned this a while ago, iirc. Thanks for the heads-up. I'll pass.

S1 draws in slowly, but traps you in the mystery.
Great cast including Patricia Arquette, John Turturro, and Christopher Walken. Produced by Ben Stiller.
              S2 has been greenlighted.

@Ivorythumper oh, yeah. Severance is one of the most disturbing things I've watched in a while. It's going to be one of those, when season 2 comes out, I'll have to re-watch season 1 to get all the nuance.

                I mentioned it here:

Finished last night. Very well done, though I found some of the flashbacks to Brigham Young and Joseph Smith a bit confusing. I also didn't "get" the relationship between the Mormons and the Piute Indians.

Nevertheless a good adaptation of a true story.

However, as I read about the actual murders, I discovered that the two protagonists, Detectives Jedediah Pyre and William Taba are fictional. One story said that the producers of the show didn't think the actual investigators would want to relive the horror of the murders, so these characters were created. A bit of a disappointment in that they didn't exist, but these characters carried the story well, particularly Pyre.

@George-K I read the book when it came out in 2003 which I enjoyed. Although I’ve liked everything krakauer has written.

                      City on a Hill:

                      Link to video

Sounds intriguing - corrupt FBI agent in Boston still interested in solving crimes, while trying to keep his life together.

                      But...

Kevin Bacon with a 1990s mustache doing a Boston accent? Think Al Pacino in "Scarface," but not as good.

Too many storylines that are only remotely related.

What made "The Sopranos" so good was that, despite Tony's true evil nature, there was just something likable about him and his family. There's none of that likability here - in anyone. Bacon's wife is a simpering whiny bitch, his mother-in-law is a nasty bitch. The DA is conflicted between justice and politics.

And, why set a show in the 1990s? Just to show old unattractive cars and CRT computer screens?

Watched 4 episodes and said "screw it."

@Catseye3 Goddammit! You got me started.

There are so many versions of this song, with Arlo Guthie's version being the hit that made it popular.

Willie Nelson's version is credible, but I never warmed to Johnny Cash's rendition.

To my mind, the definitive version is sung by the composer, Steve Goodman (a Chicago icon who passed away in his 30s of leukemia).

                            Link to video

                            A slightly different version.

And, for the record, I've ridden CONO 10 times (5 round trips).

Mr. Sunshine is about a young boy born into a house servant's family. He is orphaned during the 1871 Shinmiyangyo (U.S. expedition to Korea) and adopted by a US missionary and grows up in the US.

He returns to his homeland about 30 years later later as a U.S. marine officer. He meets and falls in love with an aristocrat’s daughter. At the same time, he discovers a plot by foreign forces (Japan) to colonize Korea. Very good but very sad. 😞

I had trouble getting through the first episode with the Vicar's unbelievable decisions. But it's only four episodes. We'll see where it goes. I need something to watch on the treadmill.

                                        Education is extremely important.

                                          Yup.

The saying, "Lite is just one damn thing after another," is a gross understatement. The damn things overlap.
