Gotta shut those Biden stories down

From your story:
All the news that's fit to print.
Prosecutors said Mr. Kurlander agreed as part of a plea deal to cooperate with the Justice Department’s investigation into how the diary was acquired by Project Veritas, whose deceptive operations against liberal groups and traditional news organizations made it a favorite of former President Donald J. Trump.
Emphasis mine.
And, a mere 12 days ago, I read this, right on this forum...
"How different is that from the Pentagon Papers? NYT got a Pulitzer for those too (while Ellsberg got felony charges)."
-
Oh, it gets better.
Heard on Mark Levin's show that Zuckerberg got leaned on by the FBI about Hunter's laptop.
Well, turns out the Feds did...
-
Oh, but the election was not rigged.
I heard that here...

Dude that is the biggest out of context quote in the history of tncr.

@Jolly that's pretty weasley...
"A general request from the FBI to restrict election misinformation."
So, IOW, the FBI, you know, the agency that falsified FISA warrants and altered emails, is the arbiter of what is misinformation.
Did I get that right?

Actually you got it wrong. The request from the FBI was general (and pretty anodyne). The arbiter was Facebook

@George-K I was not referring to Project Veritas at all. It wasn’t remotely part of the conversation we were having at the time.
Grossly distortive quotation out of context. Breitbart wouldn’t even do that.

Your comment might be out of the context of the discussion at that time. That doesn't make it wrong.
Do you think it applies here? If not, why not? What's different? To my way of thinking, illegally-obtained documents are delivered to a news source. One is investigated and one is awarded a Pulitzer.
Why?

Re: one getting investigated (by law enforcement), I think it would depend on what the organization has done to cause the illegally obtained documents to be delivered to the organization. E.g., a whistle blower on his own initiative mailing or otherwise transmitting illegally obtained documents to a reporter is one thing, a reporter executing the illegal obtainment of a document or promising or arranging payment for an informant to illegal obtain a document is quite another.
Re: one getting awarded a Pulitzer, there are so many different categories for Pulitzer under “news reporting” alone, I suppose you can click on the category you believe applies and see for yourself what the Pulitzer committee look for when they consider whom to award the prize for that news category.

From the RWEC, The FBI "responds."
=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=
The day after Mark Zuckerberg said that Facebook limited a polarizing story ahead of the 2020 election because of an FBI warning, the federal agency said it can only alert a private entity of a potential threat, not require it to take action…
In a statement Friday night, the FBI said it has provided companies with “foreign threat indicators” to help protect their platforms and customers, but that it “cannot ask, or direct, companies to take action on information received.”
“The FBI routinely notifies U.S. private sector entities, including social media providers, of potential threat information, so that they can decide how to better defend against threats,” the agency said.
Let’s start with two things that you won’t find in the linked NBC article. The first item of interest was revealed when Zuckerberg commendably agreed to a follow-up interview with Fox News. In that interview, he confirmed that the FBI had a direct line to someone at Facebook for passing along this type of “information.” And the notification was done only over the phone. Nothing was put in writing so there is no way for journalists to retrieve the warning through the FOIA process. (But I’m sure that’s just a coincidence, right?)
(secondly)
During that period several weeks before the election, the FBI had Hunter Biden’s laptop in their possession. They had the emails. They knew the story was true. This was confirmed well over a year ago when Fox interviewed Hunter Biden’s long-time business partner Tony Bobulinski, who was copied on some of the most damning emails. Just to be on the safe side, Fox interviewed Bobulinski again this week (Fox Nation subscription required) and he confirmed that the FBI never contacted him to get more information about the emails on the laptop and they still have not contacted him to this day, despite his name being plastered all over the relative documents.

I had forgotten about the fact that the FBI knew it was not fake. Yet, they pushed the story to Zuckerberg "in the interest of national security." A, in their words, "a potential thread."
Is it in the FBI's charter to look at press stories and deem them fake or not?
-
Yeah, when I read Tucker's monologue this morning, I saw where they'd talked to Bobulinski again.

Brit Hume tweeted:
"There is no evident reason the FBI cannot simply tell us what alleged disinformation it was warning Facebook about. Otherwise, the sequence of events suggests the bureau was trying to suppress what it knew was a true story. The FBI had the laptop."
That dovetails with the story I posted earlier. It was in the FBI's possession for about a year. They knew it wasn't disinformation.

As we know now from whistleblowers who came forward to Sen. Chuck Grassley, the FBI obstructed its own investigation of the laptop.
Timothy Thibault, an FBI assistant special agent in charge at the Washington field office, has been on leave since Grassley started raising concerns about his suppression of negative information about Hunter before the 2020 election.
The whistleblowers also told Grassley that the FBI had “developed information about Hunter Biden’s criminal financial and related activity . . . verified and verifiable derogatory information” but that was “falsely labeled as disinformation” by FBI supervisory intelligence analyst Brian Auten in August 2020.
Auten has been identified as the analyst who failed to alert his colleagues in 2016 to the “inconsistencies” in the phony Steele dossier, cooked up by the Clinton campaign to claim Trump was a Russian agent.
The same playbook was being applied to the Hunter Biden information.
Nothing to see...
https://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2022/aug/29/top-agent-exits-fbi-amid-charge-political-bias-und/
A senior FBI official in the bureau’s Washington field office has abruptly resigned after coming under congressional scrutiny for suspected political bias in handling the investigation of Hunter Biden’s laptop computer.
The Washington Times learned that Timothy Thibault, an assistant special agent in charge, was forced to leave his post. The information came from two former FBI officials familiar with the situation.
Mr. Thibault was seen exiting the bureau’s elevator on Friday. He was escorted by two or three “headquarters-looking types,” according to eyewitness accounts provided to one of the former officials.
It is not clear whether Mr. Thibault left on his own accord or was forced out of the bureau. The 25-year FBI veteran was on leave for at least a month over revelations about political statements he made while leading the public corruption unit.
The FBI declined to comment. Attempts to contact Mr. Thibault were unsuccessful.
Republican lawmakers have been scrutinizing Mr. Thibault for making anti-Trump statements in social media posts in 2020. At the time, he was helping lead the FBI’s probe of Hunter Biden, whose father, President Biden, was running for the White House.
Not "just one guy."
-
Thibault testified:
Retired Special Agent Timothy Thibault, the former No. 2 supervisor in the FBI’s Washington field office, told the House Judiciary Committee last week in a transcribed interview he was somewhat taken aback when he received the request from the lead agent in the Hunter Biden tax case in October 2020 to shut down the confidential human source (CHS).
“It shocked me a bit because I'm, like, the purpose of – a confidential informant is to support a case,” Thibault told investigators in portions of a transcript reviewed by Just the News.
Thibault did not further identify the source in his testimony, but best-selling author Peter Schweizer told Just the News Sunday that he believes he is the person described in the transcript based on past comments from Thibault and after The New York Times recently suggested the FBI had received information in the Hunter Biden case from a “right-wing author.”
Schweizer said the FBI approached him and he provided to agents evidence about possible criminality in fall 2020. He said there was no politics involved, just facts and he pushed back on the narrative of the Times, noting its journalists reported on the Hillary Clinton-funded Steele dossier submitted to the FBI in 2016.
