Maine Coons don't achieve maturity until they're about 5 years old. In his head, and in his body, for that matter, he's still a kitten - even thought he's about 18 lb.
He is the most tolerant, easy-going, non-agressive and fearless cat.
But...
Is he a lover? Nope . He wants to be in the same room with you, and will occasionally sleep at your feet in your bed.
Sometimes, when I go to the guest room and lie down on the bed to read, he'll hop up onto the bed with me - just out of arm's reach, of course.
But, when he's sleeping on the top of his cat tree, or when he's just sitting somewhere, I can pick him up, or just pet him, and there are no protests, and no desire to escape.
I brush him pretty much every day, and he looks forward to it - probably because there's a treat involved, LOL.

He sounds a lot like Luna. She likes to be petted and brushed - when it’s her idea. Otherwise no. She tends to spend a lot of time away from us.
Stella, on the other hand, does NOT like to be petted unless she’s up on the bed with us. She hangs around us most all the time. She’s either asleep or busy, busy, busy looking for something to do and examining anything that changes or comes into the house.
