I got a glossy 8x11.5 flyer in the mail today from a local bakery, offering one free cookie. I've never received a mass mailed flyer for a local small business before. I was impressed and intrigued, so we decided to go there tomorrow to get the free cookie and, just maybe, some more that we'll pay for. This place only sells cookies. For some reason I found myself hoping the owners were black. I think that's because I'm racist, or not racist. I'm not sure. But I went to the website and I couldn't tell. Then I went to yelp and it was 5 stars all the way. The owner responded to a review, and his picture was on his message. Black! Awesome. Then I googled his name. He was a linebacker for Berkeley and played a little for the Bills in the NFL. Now he's an entrepreneur. I'm nervous about meeting him tomorrow if he's there. What should I wear?

So what happened? Did you get the cookie? Did you meet the Bill? Did y'all chat? What did you talk about? Was he cool? Give us the deets!
You're like our own genuine celeb once removed!

He wasn't there. Just some low wage help, looked like high school girls of the low melanin variety. The cookies though, are awesome. He ships anywhere. Highly recommended.

Now I'm a brand ambassador. I went to AAA this morning to get my registration sticker (they partner with the DMV), and I noticed the clerk had a certain familiar looking cookie in a familiar looking individual wrapper. I told her I bet I knew where she got that cookie. But she didn't know. Someone had left them in the break room at the office. Lots of the office workers wanted to know. I told them, and they were excited to go there to purchase more. This is how word of mouth works. It's also how community building works. As we strive for unity, we must look to the cookie.

You'll get over it quickly, I'm sure.

I plan to feel feelings about the state I used to live in, at least until I drive over the Arizona state line on my way to Texas. Maybe for several miles after that.
