This summer’s reading project for me has been Ian Toll’s trilogy about the war the Pacific. Just started volume three. Well researched and the written narrative flows smoothly.
This photo and others like it are discussed in Vol. 2. The introduction to volume 3 discusses at length media relations of the time. Very interesting - same complaints about media then as there is now. Puts it all into perspective.

If you like popcorn fiction, I posted in the reading thread about W.E.B Griffin's The Corps series.
It starts in about 1939 and goes to about 1952. The ten volumes are stand-alone, but in actuality are really just one big book.
