The two officers who were "accessories" to the George Floyd killing have been sentenced to 3 and 3,5 years. As I recall, both of them had just joined the force and their supervisor was directing them. I cannot imagine too many people inculcated into following directives and follow the lead of the supervising officer would have done anything different. And 3 year sentences? Wow. People have done a lot worse and gotten off with a lot less.

This is punishment by the standards of righteousness, not reason. They are essentially innocent victims of the situation. One can imagine this example will cause cops in the future to act differently, and that’s the only way to see this as for the good.

In FL they get a pension and retirement healthcare they would unlikely be able to match in the private sector

Maybe not. But what about the public sector? Florida has about 245,000 public employees.
