My paranoia grew. Every man who walked past me in the produce section felt more menacing. A question kept flashing through my mind: How many of you think I should be forced to have your child??
That’s insane. And I think she knows it. This woman has extreme issues.
Advocates are pushing for political change by trying to get liberal candidates like Beto O’Rourke elected. And I hope he wins. But after years of gerrymandering and Governor Greg Abbott’s absolute drive to remain in power, I have slim hope.
So she’s an idiot, too. The Governor of Texas is not elected by electors… It’s a simple up/down popular vote. Gerrymandering would have no effect.

I'm guilty. Stuff like this gets thrown up on the web, chasing clicks. Either by people who agree with her or think she's nuts. But since I use the standard homepage for Microsoft's browser, this is the kind of crap they throw on the wall.
I just wonder how many fellow idiots think this woman is sane?
You know, with all the silliness in social media and even in MSM, are we defining sanity downwards?

In Canda they have to have some reason to let you in other than you want to be there.
Exactly. I haven’t looked in a while, but one requirement used to be that you’d bring a million dollars’ worth of assets and/or investment to the country to be allowed to immigrate.
Perhaps we should do that at the southern border?

No, you don't. If I remember correctly, there's a points system - you get points for age, occupation, work experience, qualifications etc. It might be that past a certain age you need to be very rich, as you're getting universal healthcare.
Having experienced both, I'd say the Canadian system is a lot better managed than the US one. We waited about 6 years for a green card, and then out of the blue the lawyer told us we suddenly had 48 hours to get all our medicals and stuff taken care of as a position opened.

We are certainly placing a high value on strong emotional reactions against conservative politics. The stronger the emotion, the better. In the absence of real problems, we rely on people acting like they have real problems. How else are we supposed to motivate people to vote Democrat? Appeals to their bank accounts?
This sort of fetishization of emotion is a fixture in high status leftist discussions. I listen to them. They can be seen and heard competing with one another over how solemn, shocked, histrionic, don't-know-whether-to-laugh-or-cry, name it, they are. Even nominally intelligent, sane centrists like John Stewart are consumed by this stuff. It's pervasive. If you place a value on keeping politics in perspective, don't look to the left. That's not their game, and they don't intend to return to sanity any time soon.

Stupid. Just like all the celebrities who were saying they were going to leave the country if X won or Y lost or whatever.
Be part of the solution, not part of the problem.

Look, I think there's broad agreement on fixing the American immigration system. You can't fix anything, though, if you're inundated with millions pouring across the most porous border of any first world nation. Or second world nation. Or probably third world nation.
So, get a handle on the border. After that, take a hard look at immigration. We need a guest worker program similar to the Braceros program of the 40's. We need to overhaul the visa and green card system to make it more efficient, user friendly and for the benefit of the U.S.
And we need to crucify (and I dunno, that might be literal) any illegals found within the borders of the U.S. No mercy. No lengthy appeals. No drawn out court procedures. And if you commit a capital crime in the U.S. as an illegal, you get one appeal and then the Death Penalty. I want them to receive good legal representation, I want the guilty verdict to be beyond a shadow of a doubt, I want the appeal to be heard before a judge and jury and I want everything done from arrest to trial to appeal to release or execution within 24 months.
As an immigrant, legal or illegal, I want the system to work.
