Catseye3 ➡ Waiting patiently for the rest of the story, to wit, why the brass ordered termination of the chase.

Change of cop jurisdiction? Pursuing cops notified the new jurisdiction, who took over, but including that would've loused up the cops-are-bad narrative?

It's not anything like that. Just read the rest of the article.

The Chicago Police Department introduced a new vehicle pursuit policy in August 2020. The order provides officers with 11 pages of instructions that they must consider when deciding if a vehicle should be pursued. It specifically states that CPD will not discipline any member for ending a motor vehicle pursuit.

They have a link to the policy in the article.

What does that have to do with why the boss terminated the chase?

Read the policy. The way it's written, any reason at all to terminate a chase can be justified. And the new policy states upfront that, without caveats, no one will be reprimanded for terminating a chase.

            We went from

            Pay for performance
            to defund
to fund, but don't do anything

maybe we should have stopped at defund

What are the chances that the three armed murderers on the run surrender?

What are the chances that at least one officer gets shot?

What are the chances that any or all of the murderers get shot?

If the murderers do get shot and even if the shooting is perfectly justifiable, what are the chances that these police officers wind up sacrificing their careers and having their lives ruined?

Nope. Wasn't there when the cat ate the canary, either, but the reason is still pretty obvious.

My original point was to why the reason was not included in the story. Yes, I was curious about why the termination, but that was secondary to the fact that the reporter didn't see fit to include the reason for it. It seemed pretty glaring as an omission.

Maybe it was "obvious" to you, but it's a poor reporter who leaves some part of the coverage to the assumption of the reader.

Have you ever called up police "brass" as you put it to get clarification on a story you're writing about them? Would you like to know how those conversations go?

Correlation is not causation, but do ya think that the plummeting arrest rate might have something to do as to why crime is rising?
