I don't think it was that document that established those traditions.
It is certainly that document that allowed them to change.

I don't think stupidity can be determined before surveying...

That much seems objectively true.
How would one even make the opposite case?
Seems the best you could do is to note “it’s also rooted in all these other ideas in it which are more universal etc”.
But how do you pretend it wasn’t racist and sexist in origin?

So what? It reflected American society as it existed at that time, including the disagreements over slavery and women's rights. It also established the ability of the people to change as they wished. Its precepts have consistently been interpreted to move us toward greater rights and justice.

Those words had different meaning at the time.
The practices were acceptable, even admired.

Maybe we should specify the parts of the document which show the racism or sexism, before we handwave anachronistic value judgments about the document's "roots".

Notice where the majority thought about racism and sexism occurs...It's primarily among Democrats.
Why?

Because those people have been successfully indoctrinated into the belief that their choice of political tribe demonstrates their higher virtue with regard to things such as racism and sexism. While in fact the real primate evolution reason they've adopted those views is because they are the most socially advantageous ones to express. Real demonstration of virtue requires sacrifice. Parroting politically correct opinions on various forms of bigotry entails zero sacrifice, and only accrues social gain.
I suppose I've spent years here on TNCR trying to explain this concept in 1000 different ways.

I'm going out on a limb here, but I think it might be the fault of pop culture.

Yep.
The more aware one is of how humans operate, the more aware one is about the primacy of culture in our thoughts and feels.
