Now you have more GOP elected officials saying that an under-12 young girl who became impregnated from rape would not be allowed to voluntarily terminate their pregnancies:

      https://www.msnbc.com/rachel-maddow-show/maddowblog/10-year-old-girl-reportedly-forced-leave-ohio-legal-abortion-rcna36660

Among those named are Asa Hutchinson (Gov. Arkansas), Philip Gunn (Speaker of the House in Mississippi), Kristi Noem (Gov. South Dakota).

        https://www.msnbc.com/rachel-maddow-show/maddowblog/10-year-old-girl-reportedly-forced-leave-ohio-legal-abortion-rcna36660

Among those named are Asa Hutchinson (Gov. Arkansas), Philip Gunn (Speaker of the House in Mississippi), Kristi Noem (Gov. South Dakota).

“[E]very single life — every single life is precious,” Noem said. “This tragedy is horrific. I can’t even imagine. I have never had anybody in my family or myself gone through anything like this. I can’t even imagine. But, in South Dakota, the law today is that the abortions are illegal, except to save the life of the mother.”

The governor added, “What I would say is, I don’t believe a tragic situation should be perpetuated by another tragedy.”

Circling back to our recent coverage, if nothing else, there’s an unmistakable consistency to such a position: Terminating an unwanted pregnancy is wrong, the argument goes, regardless of circumstances. If that means the government will force raped 10-year-old children to proceed with unwanted pregnancies, so be it.

The question for the rest of the public is whether to vote for policymakers who espouse such a position.

        Yeah, that's how that works.

        Education is extremely important.

            Not obviously true.

Bro what the hell are you doing even entertaining this. 😄 This is like 5 Duning-Kruger incompetency curves, all in constructive interference with one another, creating the mythical idiocy superwave. Rare, fleeting, almost too powerful to believe.

Perhaps the only reason you’re here is because your mom did decide to abort your older sibling.

Nah, very unlikely. Not likely due to age, and anyway, by accounts, it didn't happen.

Lots of people abort a pregnancy when young and go on to have kids when they’re older. In many cases they wouldn’t have the later kid(s) if they had had the earlier one(s).

            True.

Also common for adoptees to have younger half-siblings they never learn about.

I didn’t mean literally you. I meant simply to point out that aborting X pregnancies doesn’t result in X fewer people on net.

There is also a sterility factor after abortions, as well as a significantly greater susceptibility to miscarriage, which does result in fewer people.

                      Shouldn't be that way.

With the way the internet and media now work, stories are not vetted and travel through the public at the speed of light. To make a mistake is bad, but to intentionally plant a false story should be criminal.

According to Wiki, a 10 year old pregnancy is unusual. Since 1835, there have been 101 reported cases. About 30 of them in the United States. It wouldn't be a surprise, of course, if there were more.

So, in the last 190 years, there have been 30 reported cases in the US of a 10 year old pregnancy, and this one pops up within a month after Roe is overturned.

We saw over 100,000 outpatients/year for decades, ED and clinics. Our OB/GYN clinic ran between 20k - 24k of that number.

In 34 years, I saw one pregnant 11 year-old, but I can't remember if she could have been pregnant at 10. BTW, she also had syphilis...Her mom was a crackhead hooker and daughter was working in the family business.

Now, add on the fact that the mysterious “abuse doctor” did not report the case to the police as required by law and has not come forward themselves with the claim AND this particular abortionist in the Indiana has been interviewed for years by national media (why would the NYT interview a small town OBGYN in 2017 about Trump’s policies regarding abortion?) and last month was predicting this same bizarre scenario in an article before the official ruling? Add remember, even with the Ohio ban, all they need is an OBGYN to state verify that carrying the child presents an a elevated health risk to the girl. Even I could tell you that! And I’m not a biologist (though I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express)

                                  Pen and a Phone

President Biden is planning to outline additional steps aimed at bolstering abortion rights on Friday morning, two weeks after the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade, as many Democrats have called on him to respond with bolder and more urgent action.
Biden, joined by Vice President Harris, plans to deliver a speech from the Roosevelt Room at the White House on his efforts to protect access to reproductive health-care services.
He is also planning to sign an executive order that, according to a statement released late Thursday by the White House, will attempt to safeguard access to abortion medication and emergency contraception, protect patient privacy and bolster legal options for those seeking access to such services.
The order directs Health and Human Services Secretary Xavier Becerra to submit a report within 30 days that would address many of those items. Becerra is also charged with finding ways to increase public outreach so that those seeking reproductive health-care services, including abortion, know how to access them.

In a nod to some of the legal battles that could come, Biden is also directing the attorney general and the White House counsel to convene private pro bono attorneys, bar associations, and public interest organizations to encourage legal representation for those seeking or offering reproductive health services.

“Such representation could include protecting the right to travel out of state to seek medical care,” according to the White House statement.
Legal assistance has been a chief concern among some abortion rights advocates. Gov. Gretchen Whitmer (D-Mich.) urged the Biden administration on Thursday to “pull out all the stops,” point out legal obstacles that could prevent Michigan residents from seeking services in Canada or from bringing medication back from across the border.

Yep, with all the problems this country has - inflation, energy production, healthcare, lack of affordable cars, infrastructure, housing prices, China, Russia - THIS issue deserves his full attention.

If we ever have a group of mothers in this country who would have aborted if it were legal, we should make a note to poll them, some years down the line, about whether they wish they'd been able to abort. I guess you could also ask the kid, but that wouldn't be fair.

                                      Education is extremely important.

OK, so his 'bold response' is to order a report that tell him how to do this. End of quote. Repeat this line.

It's horseshit and mirrors. Much of the actual stuff concerns PHI and making sure the government keeps close watch on sale of information such as names, addresses, etc.

Joe? That's already illegal. It's that HIPPO law, Joe. You like hippos, don't you? Want one for Christmas?
