That's not what caused the fall, though. He's using baskets. Nylon ones at that. He tried to clear his right foot, thought he did, tried to put his foot back down but it was still in the basket. Classic mistake, really.
May well be. When that bone hits the concrete, it doesn't care how it got there. Biden is almost 80 and not as spry as some. Maybe he needs a different form of exercise.

I was in NOLA in late November. Not particularly enjoyable. Just cold enough to make you uncomfortable, and just humid enough to make you REALLY uncomfortable.

I really hate toe clips or baskets. Never allow them on my bikes, although I understand they take advantage of the upward stroke.

They come out of the box on a lot of hybrids like the kind Biden is on. I can very easily see how his bike could have been equipped with one.
Strangely, they're also a very common aesthetic choice among fixie riders. Usually they go with a full metal cage or use leather straps because nylon ain't cool, but cages are still the rage.
I hate 'em, too.
