Very interesting.

Presumably, all-electric and hybrid vehicles pay zero or less tax when they don't use gasoline. Gas taxes are (supposed to be) used for funding infrastructure maintenance, repair and replacement.

Use of public roadways should be taxed at a rate proportional to the usage of the driver, not by the amount of fuel that s/he uses.

As you know, I'm a fan of rail travel.

I've asked this question on many online forums: Funding of infrastructure is via taxes. My feeling is that the funding of the means of transportation should be proportional to the amount of "benefit" the passenger, etc., receives.

When you consider how much funding goes to roads, airports, etc., is it really proportional to the cost per passenger-mile?

They will have to impose a tax at charging stations commensurate with gas takes on comparable mileage.

They will have to do something. The "fairest" (but probably not something that will ever pass) is to charge per miles driven, almost like making every road a toll road.

Singapore has something similar, but just for the downtown area.

Having license payments higher for EV's is a good idea I think.
