It may not be what you think...

Just skimmed it, but he makes some interesting points.
As a side note, with the emergence of UAVs becoming a serious part of overall warfare strategy, I have to wonder what the utility of highly complex, fabulously expensive manned aircraft will be in the future.
The situation in Ukraine shows that. Russia's air force is pretty much out of the picture, other than some rare raids using (now) unguided munitions. The UAVs are a serious player in this conflict.
How complicated would it be to build a VR cockpit that exactly replicates what a human pilot can see? Look at VR games today, and even people like @mark can don a headset, look around the cockpit and fly. Translate that tech into a cockpit of a real aircraft, with cameras etc, to allow situational awareness, etc.
I don't think it's that much of a jump, and I'll bet DARPA and others are seriously looking it.

Note in the article it talks about the size of the aircraft and drone swarms.
Imagine a fighter half the size of a B2, but stealthier, with releasable drones controlled by the Wizzo or a couple of crewman. Or, as you pointed out, a team of guys on the ground.

Yup saw that. Big plane.
Imagine a fighter half the size of a B2, but stealthier, with releasable drones controlled by the Wizzo or a couple of crewman.
Or, as you pointed out, a team of guys on the ground.Which makes the need for a pilot or Wizzo moot.
You've got loitering drones and suicide drones being used in Ukraine. I think this isn't as far in the future as some think. Look at the transformation in the last 20 years.
