Trivia: take a deck of cards and give it a good shuffle. You are pretty much guaranteed to have produced an ordering of the cards unique in human history.

Like if 8 billion people shuffled cards once a second for a billion years, the number of card orderings would be 1/(42-digit number) of the total possible.

On the other hand, given enough time, a monkey hammering away randomly on a typewriter would produce Homer's Odyssey eventually.

    @Klaus A Bob Newhart sketch.

A roomful of monkeys, each sitting at a desk and banging away on a typewriter. Men in white coats wandering the aisles, observing. One of them stops, stares, and cries, "Jim! Jim! Get over here, quick!" The other man joins the first, who points to what the monkey had typed: "To be or not to be, that is the geframenplatz."

Define “lift” when the object you’re supposed to “lift” is the dominant gravitational attractor.

A lot of this is true

Abraham Lincoln was elected to Congress in 1846.

John F. Kennedy was elected to Congress in 1946.

Abraham Lincoln was elected President in 1860.

John F. Kennedy was elected President in 1960.

Both were particularly concerned with civil rights.

Both wives lost a child while living in the White House.

Both Presidents were shot on a Friday.

Both Presidents were shot in the head.

        Now it gets really weird.

        Lincoln's secretary was named Kennedy.

        Kennedy's Secretary was named Lincoln.

        Both were assassinated by Southerners.

Both were succeeded by Southerners named Johnson.

Andrew Johnson, who succeeded Lincoln, was born in 1808.

Lyndon Johnson, who succeeded Kennedy, was born in 1908.

John Wilkes Booth, who assassinated Lincoln, was born in 1839.

Lee Harvey Oswald, who assassinated Kennedy, was born in 1939.

Both assassins were known by their three names.

Both names are composed of fifteen letters.

Now hang on to your seat.

Lincoln was shot at the theater named "Ford."

Kennedy was shot in a car called "Lincoln" made by "Ford."

Booth and Oswald were assassinated before their trials.

        And here's the "kicker":

A week before Lincoln was shot, he was in Monroe, Maryland.

A week before Kennedy was shot, he was with Marilyn Monroe.

        AND...................:

Lincoln was shot in a theater and the assassin ran to a warehouse...

Kennedy was shot from a warehouse and the assassin ran to a theater...

The Wonder and Tastykake food companies are supporters of USO. Between 2018 and 2022, they will have donated up to $1.8 billion to that organization.

If it belonged to Caligula, I'd hate to think where it's been.

Not surprisingly, the ring caused a sensation when it was made available for purchase on an auction by Royal jewelers Wartski.

“This ring is one of the prestigious 'Marlborough Gems', having previously been in the collection of the Earl of Arundel.

It is crafted entirely of sapphire. Very few hololiths exist and I would argue this is the best example you can find.

We believe it belonged to the debauched Emperor Caligula and the engraving shows his final wife Caesonia,” Kieran McCarthy, Wartski director said.

Caligula’s ring was finally sold for close to £500,000 in 2019.

Given what people pay for a pair of socks from Elvis, or a burned toast resembling the face of Jesus, 500,000 $ sounds like a rather low price for an item like that.

It would be interesting to track the ring's journey from Caligula's day to today -- where it ended up, with whom and why, and so on.

It would be interesting to track the ring's journey from Caligula's day to today -- where it ended up, with whom and why, and so on.

Given what people pay for a pair of socks from Elvis, or a burned toast resembling the face of Jesus, 500,000 $ sounds like a rather low price for an item like that.

My very first thought was that was an incredibly low price. Honestly I would personally have bid higher had I known it was being auctioned.

                                      I mean, if I had Horace’s riches.

I would only bid if you did. I would drive up the price to your maximum, a point I would know because of my ability to read minds. Then I would post on TNCR a list of philanthropic projects you could have used that money for. Defeated financially and spiritually, you would retire from TNCR in shame. Only to be welcomed back by my own benevolent hand of forgiveness. Humbled and improved, you would return, wearing your Caligula ring, now engraved with a simple “H” in honor of this greatest transformative experience of your life.

                                        Education is extremely important.

@Horace The beautifully balanced and downright songlike cadence of your post above, I can only say, makes me sigh in appreciation. 😳
