The Gangs Protect

D4 lives in a part of Chicago which has a large Hispanic population. Apparently, there's a strong gang presence there as well, though she's never had any problems being safe there.
Amidst all the crap going down in the last 24 hours, she's seen signs that the gangs are trying to protect their turf, in the sense of "don't you DARE mess with my 'hood."
She just sent me a photo from her apartment showing yellow ribbons - a sign that the gangs are watching.
She said, "See the yellow ribbon on the tree and the banister though? That’s a gang thing. Not a bad thing in this scenario."

It's very interesting to me that colored ribbons are their preferred communication platform.
