The person was likely killed in the 1980s based on items found in the barrel, Las Vegas police said.
How many more bodies will be found as the lake continues to evaporate?

At last the truth can be revealed.
It's Jimmy Hoffa. Jimmy's ma, Esme -- short for Esmeralda -- arranged for it to be put about that the Mafia, specifically Al Capone, killed Jimmy and poured him into a Chicago bridge abutment in 1975. Meanwhile Jimmy changed his name and set up as the manager of a fish processing plant in Queens. All went well until he got careless and confessed his real identity to his longtime true love, Tullia Perkins, an alcoholic who got tipsy on champagne cocktails one night and told Al Capone Jr, who became enraged at this calumny against his father (who was not such a bad guy) and vowed revenge. Al Junior spirited Jimmy away in the back of a Honda Civic (fortune had not smiled on Al Junior) and killed him and stuffed him into a barrel which he tossed into Lake Mead. (His intended end was Lake Hollywood, but two-thirds of the way across the country with a dead body in the car was all he could take.) Unbeknownst to him, two tickets to a Rolling Stones concert that he'd planned as a birthday surprise for Tullia fell out of his pocket into the barrel, hence the '80s artifacts' found by the Vegas cops, who do not dream that they are in possession of the corpse of Jimmy Hoffa.
And that's the truth.

They say about 40 years ago? That was when Tony “the Ant” Spilotro was operating in Vegas. Tony Spilotro was the real life person that Joe Pesci’s mobster character, Nicky Santoro, was based on in the movie Casino. The body in the barrel could have been one of Tony’s hits.
