Maybe John Deere is on to something after all

When our brand new Subaru CrossTrek was stolen, I was following it on my phone 1,200 miles away and reporting the location with screen shots to the police through SMS texting. I so wanted the app to let me disable the car but it would not let me turn the engine off. That would have saved a lot of money because they crashed into another vehicle after running a red light, took the cops on a high speed chase through residential areas, and ended up crashing it again into a wall doing more than $8,000 in damage to it.
All for the want of a disable function.

Remote immobilization of heavy equipments that move at high speed can be very dangerous. “Disable” a car at the wrong time and you can cause a multi car pile-up on a busy highway. You affect not only your vehicle but you can also cause deaths and inflict severe injuries to innocent bystanders.

How would "disabling" a car at the "wrong time" cause a "multi car pile-up on a busy highway"?

That was my thought as well. The driver is not expecting it.

How did we not hear about the Crosstrek theft? Or did I miss the thread?
How did they steal it. That’s pretty hard with newer cars other than carjacking.

My daughter was visiting a friend in a not so great neighborhood. She dropped her keys when exiting the car, and did not notice until it was too late. They went inside for a few minutes. When they came outside, the car was gone.
