Very good 20 minute monologue from Sam Harris today about his friend Joe Rogan and his recent controversies.

I listened to that right when it dropped and was going to recommend it.

I thought the Sam Harris opinion on trans athletes from the previous episode was cogent.

Sam Harris is talking to Gary Kasparov live now on zoom. I think he'll release it as a podcast eventually.

Good discussion. It was invite only, (I was invited - no big deal,) so most of you will have to wait for the podcast. By that time, the information will distinguish you less for having it, but I still recommend listening.

                @Horace

I too, being almost as important as you are, was invited.

I found it interesting that, though it was live, they hadn’t heard about the embargo on Russian oil until Sam’s assistant mentioned it at the end.

Interesting interview with Larry Summers - who does a nice analysis of the inflation situation - likely recession and what interventions might be most useful.

                    Just starting listening to this

                    Boys Like Me

"Why are some lonely, young men a growing threat to our safety? In 2018, a Toronto man drove a van down a busy sidewalk, killing 11 people and injuring many more. He was linked to the "incel" movement, a dark online world fueled by violent misogyny, extreme isolation and perceived rejection. "

                    Interesting so far.

There was a recent forum thread on "incel".

A great podcast with Sam Harris interviewing Ian Bremmer over Ukraine. Different from many conversations you might have heard, this is focused mainly on potential endgames. Also some inside scoop on why the MIGs were never transferred.

The latest Jordan Peterson podcast is an interview with John McWhorter. It seems to have been recorded a while back when his book was coming out.

                        Definitely recommend it.

Sam Harris is talking to Douglas Murray in a live event for subscribers Monday. I assume it’ll drop as a podcast in a week or two.

this is a podcast by a very dear friend of mine from Australia. now i don't expect anyone here, not even George, will sit down and listen to a podcast on anatomy for medical students, but he intersperses between episodes of pure anatomy some episodes on the history of dissection, and the connection between Classical Art and Anatomy.

now im listening to this episode on the genderization of anatomy

                                https://podcasts.apple.com/au/podcast/the-genderization-of-anatomy-monism-and-the-theory-of-women/id1543510165?i=1000553519941

which i recommend, although it is quite off beat, but i can listen to him talk for hours. I like his style. very academic but quite approachable.

aslo recommended are his series of episodes entitled the anatomy cupboard-these are all episodes for the general listener and not on pure anatomy

I have really liked most of the Podcasts from the CBC (Canada Broadcast Company). I am currently listening to the various seasons of "Uncover". Some true crime, but other interesting topics as well. Most "seasons" are 6-7 episodes or so, all focusing on the same subject.

Recent one I listened to was about "Satanic Panic", where there was supposedly Satanic Cults that were going around abusing, murdering, injuring little kids. Resulted in a lot of trauma, but there is evidence that most of the stories of abuse, etc. never happened.

The first season was interesting story about that cult - NXIVM, which has been discussed on this forum board before.

Midnight Miracle is freaking great. It's on Luminary, but some of the episodes are free and available to nonsubscribers.

Content-wise, you're only going to like it if you like Dave Chappelle and Mos Def. Production-wise, they're doing shit with podcasts as a medium that I haven't heard from anyone else.

                                      Please love yourself.

Catching up on The Glenn Show recently, a podcast hosted by Glenn Loury and frequently co-hosted by John McWhorter. They are both Black academics of notable achievement and insight, who reject the prevailing race narrative as destructive to the communities it purports to sympathize with.

McWhorter told a story on a recent episode about a time, as a young academic with ideas about the Black experience not entirely in line with the narrative, he gave a talk at a small book store. A 50 year old white progressive woman, an employee at the store, came up to him afterwards with a look of pity and gave him a book to read which she hoped would teach him about the hardships of those who look like he does. He was so offended by this well meaning woman, that he intentionally didn't read anything from that author for decades after. Finally he did, and found him to be a great writer, but of course he learned nothing he did not already know about looking like he does. What he learned of on the day that woman took pity on him for being so wrong about his own experiences and thoughts, was the pervasive mindset of the indoctrinated white progressive female. Sadly, it is founded on a profound sense of superiority over people who look like he does.

This anecdote is 55 minutes into the May 23 episode of The Glenn Show, for anybody who'd like to listen. The writer the woman recommended was Walter Mosley.

McWhorter wrote about that in one of his recent NYT pieces, too.
