I had a taste for popcorn today. Usually I use this goofy silicone thing to make popcorn from kernels in the microwave. It works remarkably well.

Anyhow, I came across a method of making popcorn in the Instant Pot.

    Yes, in the Instant Pot:

    https://farmettekitchen.com/instant-pot-popcorn/

Set the Instant Pot to Saute.
Add in coconut oil and allow it to melt.
Add in the popcorn kernels and give them a stir to coat with the melted oil.
Cover the Instant Pot with a clear glass lid and cook for 5-6 minutes, or until the kernels stops popping.
Carefully transfer popcorn to a large bowl and generously sprinkle salt over.
Enjoy with your favorite toppings or seasonings.

I didn't have coconut oil, so I used peanut oil.

Followed the instructions, and...nothing happened. About a dozen and a half kernels popped, and then....it just sat there.

    What was I thinking?

Explosions in pressure cookers? Too soon.

Nah, nothing that exciting. It was on the "saute" setting, and the glass lid was vented.

When you are craving something is not a good time to try new techniques.

We were to have our new microwave and range installed. It went wrong in every possible way.

Tonight’s dinner was the venerable Smoke Turkey Rosemary pasta. Stick with the classics.

Take it from somebody that bought his popcorn in 50 pound bags, it's probably the best thing this side of a commercial popper. Will have to play with your stove a mite, in order to get your heat just right, but once you get locked in, you've got it.

I like a commercial theater type coconut oil, but I like real butter for a topping, rather than the movie theater stuff. Salt should be popcorn salt.

Both Frigidaire Gallery, one step down from the Frigidaire Professional models I had. Well, I still have the range.

The microwave was originally installed before I tiled the backsplash, so it was flush against the back wall. the new one was just a little bigger and would not fit in above the tile. So we had to figure out and fabricate a 1/2" gasket of sorts so it would vent to the outside.

OK, so that eventually worked. Then the guy unloaded and unboxed the range. It had a pretty sizeable dent in the bottom right side. So, after being placed on hold ignore for many phone calls, the store offered me 30% off. I had verified that it would not impact the use, so I thought, ok. Let's get this done. We pulled the old range out and found the position the gas line had been put in would not allow the new range in, which gad less clearance. So back it went. In addition, moving the line will be difficult because of some scab, not to code framing my basement guy had done when finishing the basement in 2003.

                Well, just double fuck.

When we got our 82" TV back in 2019, my daughter bought us one of these for xmas that year.

It's a fun popcorn maker that I don't really enjoy cleaning.

Here's what I use. It folds up, takes next to no space, uses no oil or anything. Simple, reliable and easy to clean.

                    (oh, and it's only $12)

Microwave? Silicone? Better than commercial microwave popcorn?
