          A giraffe makes for a very awkward unit of measure, because the enclosing square is so different depending on whether it's eating from a high branch, or from the ground. I would recommend hippopotami as a more reliable measure. Almost cubic in three dimensions.

                        Just read this in a blog post about the beach at Nazaré:

                        Now the winter months are just as popular as the summer, with big names in surf living out the season catching waves the size of 5 piggy-backing giraffes.
