Famous Jameis Winston.Reasons?
- He's almost the size of Big Ben and he's not easy to bring down. Crab legs is more mobile than you think he is.
- He does not throw a great short ball, but he can certainly fling it down field. He'll throw a better 30 yard out, than he'll throw a swing pass out of the backfield. One of the strongest long ball arms in the NFL.
- The Saints want him back, The Saints are clearing cap space, but Winston showed enough last year to A) demand a three year contract and B) be paid at least $15M year. I think the Steelers have the money. I think the Saints don't.
- Winston has shown he can take care of the ball and he's coachable, but he's at his most productive as a gunslinger, ala Bradshaw or Favre. If you can keep the long-ball, gunslinger mentality with just a hair of the game manager he learned in new Orleans, I think Winston can produce in Pittsburgh.
- I think the Saints will take Teddy Two-gloves back on a much cheaper contract than what he's been making. Teddy knows the offense and was 5-0 in New Orleans as a starter. If Teddy comes in cheap enough, that let's the Saints try to keep Marcus Williams, who they really want to keep. Winston is better, but Teddy can still win a division with the Saint's defense.

With our Offensive and Defensive Coordinators, I don't think it will matter much. Pittsburgh will wind up slightly over 500 and lose in the first round of the playoffs.

The Bucs are all at sea. Three names have been mentioned, without much enthusiasm: Jimmy Garapolo (har), Kyle Trask, and I forget the third one.
Then there's the sad little enclave holding out for "He's coming back!"
I'm not real au courant, but I think nobody knows right now.

But since I already barged in:
I remembered the third name is Blaine Gabbert.

It is common knowledge that players returning from injury are in the best shape they'll ever be in, because they spend their time working out, rather than recuperating from the physical beatings they take on game days. However, in Kaepernick's case, his injury is to his soul. A soul beaten down relentlessly by racism against his people. Can such an existential injury be overcome by mere "workouts"? As a white male, I can't know this. But if anybody can overcome and prevail, it is Kaepernick.

Hasn't played for five years. That means his QB acumen has deteriorated. I do not see Kapernick ever returning to the NFL. Too much of a lightning rod of publicity, especially in the deep south.
No, I think TB will go for the draft. Some very good young QBs coming up.
I agree with Winston going to Pittsburgh. But it won't restore their glory days. It is time for more substantial changes there. Like coaching.

Tampa Bay is interesting. Ariens' no-riskit-no-biskit offense was sinking the Bucs, until Brady had a Come To Jesus moment with him and installed much of the old Patriot offense, which lead to a Super Bowl victory.
If Ariens learned anything from Tom, somebody like the kid from Pitt would be interesting.
Alternatively, Watson was cleared of all criminal charges. He is going to be one hot commodity, if a team can afford his contract.

As for Kaepernick, people are already forgetting that he lost his starting position and was benched for inadequate play.
The kid was on fire when he first started. I thought he was going to revolutionize the game. The league caught up, though. Quickly. RGIII, Kaepernick, and countless others… If you can’t throw, you can only run so long.
Lamar Jackson is already declining…
Now mobile QB’s or dual threat QBs are a different story. Josh Allen… Burrow… They’ll run, but their eyes are downfield the whole time looking for an opportunity to throw.
If Pittsburgh get’s a QB and the first highlight they show is him running the ball? SMH.. I actually walked away from the game for a while thanks to Kordell Stewart. I don’t want to do so again.

Speaking of Steelers, a good guy hangs them up...
Villanueva was just a raw strong kid that didn't show enough talent to be drafted, so he spent 4 years in the Rangers. During his service he was awarded The Bronze Star for carrying three members of his platoon to safety while under fire. After his tour, He landed a training camp spot with the Eagles as a DE. During a preseason game, Tomlin noticed the kid's size and strength in pre-game warmups. He was let go the following week and Pittsburgh picked him up off waivers and put him on the Practice Squad as an OT. He hung onto that practice squad spot all year and they signed him to a 2-year futures contract.
When they signed him to the practice squad, he weighed 250lbs. At camp the next year he came in at 340... He made the roster as the second team swing tackle because of an injury to the guy above him. by mid-October he was the starting LT because of a couple of injuries. He did well enough that the Steelers let the starting LT go in free agency and signed him as the starting LT in 2016. He went on to make the ProBowl twice. Not bad for a 250lb DE prospect cut from his first tryout...

Remember Fran Tarkenton?
Guy was in the league for many years (18). He could scramble and run. Archie Manning? Manning could run with the best of them. Sadly, in New Orleans, it was usually for his life. He still played 13 years. But both guys were great passers. And they could read their progressions.
Kaepernick was a half-field, one receiver read with a safety valve back. If you could cover for just a moment and defend the QB run, you could make him miserable.

That's my point. A QB needs to throw the ball. Period. Being able to run is great, but you gotta be able to make the throws and read the defense.
Like I said, if the first highlight of the new Steeler's QB is a running play, I will be pissed beyond words.
