Operation Downfall would have been the final battle for Japan. There is a debate over casualties, but the combat power being lined up for the Japanese invasion would have been massive...As an example, 42 aircraft carriers and 7 atomic bombd for starters.
And that's not counting the Soviets, who were planning an invasion of their own...
