Theater shooting over thrown popcorn

This happened a few years ago and I think we discussed it here. The verdict finally came down recently and the shooter was found not guilty. I agree with Dr Grande's take here, that the jury got it wrong. No way should anybody have died in that confrontation.

Sounds like a wrong verdict to me, too.

You can't just start shooting because a situation appears potentially dangerous. A killing is self-defense only when there's a clear and realistic threat to that person's life. Also, shooting without a warning?

Lesson 0: You never know whether the guy you're dealing with is a psycho with a gun. Act accordingly.

The shooter began the interaction by demanding that the other guy shut off his phone. Which is of course within his rights, but probably a dick move.

After getting settled into the passenger seat, the hitchhiker thanked the man for the ride, then asked, “but how do you know I’m not a serial killer?”

“I’m not worried,” the driver replied. “The chances of two serial killers being in the same car have to be astronomical.”
