Back to the Canadian Trucker's Protest...

The Canadian government froze some bank accounts. There are conflicting reports about who and how many, but they did freeze individual and company accounts.

Another board I have been involved with for over a decade has several Canadian members, mostly rural guys from Alberta, Saskatchewan and several Newfies. The lady that moderates the board (and Renauda may know her, as she was oil patch for several years) works for ( or maybe owns part of) a trucking company.

As you can guess, opinions on the protest were all over the place and I'd say the Canadians were split about 50/50. Our moderator started out kinda in the middle, but became very pro-trucker after her company's bank account was frozen. No warrant. No prior warning. The company had not supported the protest in any way...None of their drivers participated, the company donated no services or money to the cause. The accounts were only frozen for just a few days, but it still caused some cash-flow, bill-paying and logistical nightmares.

    Oopsie.

In the modern world, where electronic banking is the norm and most bills are set up on direct draft or electronic payment, freezing a bank account is perhaps the ultimate cancellation. No money equals no rent, no food, no fuel, no heat, no much of anything. You no longer exist as a functioning and productive member of society.

And consider, this was done without any due process, not as I understand the action.

As Americans looking at our northern neighbors, should we reinforce our laws to make sure this never happens here?

“Cry havoc and let slip the DOGE of war!”

Those who cheered as J-6 American prisoners were locked in solitary for 18 months without trial, now suddenly fight tooth and nail for foreign terrorists’ "due process". — Buck Sexton
