Not surprising and part of it is that more and more, people are only reading, hearing, and seeing the side that they agree with.

If you are Republican, you will watch Fox network, read websites that provide the same type of news, listen to radio (or news podcasts) that fit with your political view.

If you are Democrat, it is the opposite.

I have said this before, but one of the good things about this forum board is that it has a pretty good "distribution" across politics.

One big problem - it's not true. They are fleeing democrat states and moving to Republican states. That fact has been clearly shown, beyond any doubt. The npr writer is just trying to spin it.
