There is a reason expensive guitars are expensive. Much like pianos, you pay a lot more for little increases in tone, but the difference is there. The high end Taylors, Martins, Larivees, Breedloves, etc.

Then you have the other end, which can contain some decent instruments for beginners (I like the Yamahas), but something decent players move on from fairly quickly.

Then you have working musician stuff...Especially stuff in the middle that delivers enough for performance, but won't set an upcoming musician or a guy working an occasional Saturday night back a huge part of their piggybank. One guitar I really, really like in this category is a Mexican Martin, the D-10E.

Affordable at $849, enough electronics to get you by, decent build quality and it sounds like a Martin.

Compared to pianos, violins, cellos, horns etc. guitars are ridiculously inexpensive. You can buy a top-of-the-line guitar for the additional charge of buying a piano in white and not black.

If they'd be so overpriced, piano companies wouldn't declare bankruptcies like all over in the last decades. They are simply very complicated instruments, and making them is hence very expensive.
