Black woman promise backfires.

When you've lost Slate...
"But those abstract promises needlessly tokenized the actual women who would step into those roles, dooming them to racist and sexist skepticism before they even got the nod."

I have seldom seen you be so very wrong on something. The two situations could not be farther apart.
Nah, Jon is just jealous...

In time?
The only difference was GHWB didn't pre-announce that he would be selecting a black guy, though the whole political world knew he would do so.
And he lied later - twice in the same sentence. He said "I didn't chose Thomas because of his race, but because he was the most qualified candidate out there".
THere's still time for Biden to make the same two lies about his candidate, wouldn't surprise me if he did.

only difference
Yes, that's the point
Anyone that looks like a TNCR member was eliminated 2 years ago.
Nobody is fooling anyone, but the presentation matters. Both presidents did and will pander as needed.

Yep. She’ll always be thought of as the best African American woman (under 55) that they could find.
Like Thomas was the best black conservative to be found.
I dont recall Thomas being selected because he was black. As i recall he was selected because of his qualifications, not his skin color.
It's very easy to claim Thomas was selected because of skin color when you're trying to equivocate. Doesn't mean anything, but it's easy to do. It's a lot harder to claim the black woman that gets chosen was chosen based on her qualifications however, because it was announced ahead of time. It is racist to select someone because of skin color. It is just as racist to omit someone from consideration because of their skin color. And, it is equally racist to accuse someone of getting chosen based on skin color when there is absolutely no evidence of it other than the personal opinion of "everybody knew it even though no one said it".

Both Reagan and Trump promised a female in advance of their picks. Reagan, like Joe, when campaigning.
