Is that photo real? Looks to well preserved and too detailed to stay like that for 10000 years, exposed to sun and weather.

I have several 40-50 feet Holly trees in my back yard, I think they are all pointy leaves.
There might be some smooth ones hiding up there at the top.

Just a wild guess, it could be the equipment, assuming it was magnetic tape, the record and play (or convert to digital) speeds could be slightly off
