The saying, "Lite is just one damn thing after another," is a gross understatement. The damn things overlap.

I find it hard to believe that an astronaut could just "smuggle" this on board. I'd imagine that every grain of sand that gets onboard has to be authorised by a dozen people.

Alan B. successfully smuggled a "golf club" and some balls on Apollo 14.

              Please love yourself.

Also, these people are trained to be super responsible. Everything that goes wrong on a space station can have very costly or deadly results. What if somebody would be so surprised by the prank that he or she did something stupid? I would imagine people in such positions don't take such risks unless there's a good reason.

I think most smuggle something on board. But they are in cahoots with someone who will back them up and give tacit approval.

Remember Gus Grissom's dimes, and other stuff, in the Right Stuff?

They are, after all, risking their lives.

The facts behind the gorilla suit story

"In actual fact it was Mark’s identical twin brother Scott that wore the suit. And he didn’t exactly smuggle it aboard. It was sent as a care package to him by Mark (also an astronaut) who was down on Earth at the time.

The gorilla suit was sent up on a resupply mission while Scott was aboard the ISS for a year in space. And after climbing into a soft-side storage container that was checked by Tim Peake, the video subsequently shows the first Brit aboard the space station being chased around by Kelly in full monkey mode.

‘Needed a little humor to lighten up a #YearInSpace. Go big, or go home. I think I’ll do both. #SpaceApe,’ Kelly tweeted at the time."

                    I was only joking
