TBH, I'm more worried by the fact that her predecessor was named Captain Slaughter.

Margaret Thatcher ran an entire country back in the 1970's. And, it has to be said, she wasn't exactly a push-over.

        What's the big deal?

        I was only joking

She's never trapped on a carrier. She's a chopper pilot by trade.

To command a carrier, you have to be a naval aviator with a college degree, command a nabval unit, have a deep water command, and be an exec on a carrier.

AFAIK, she's the first person in modern times to be appointed as a carrier captain without trapping an aircraft on a carrier.

            Forgot to ask...

What are her pronouns, and did she get good guidance for that from the DoD?

In this climate, with this administration, one always has to question the politics behind an appointment like this.

              Pity.

Do you think this would have happened with the previous administration?

                I do.

Wokeness (ahem) trumps administrations' policies. This kind of crap was happening with 45.

Now, that said, I don't know enough about the new captain of this boat to make a reasonable judgement. She might be exceptionally well qualified.

                I hope so.

Are there other sailors who are just as qualified? Or, perhaps (shudder) more qualified?

I don't know. And none of us ever will.

There's always been politics with senior appointments. The specifics may change, but it would be very naive to think otherwise.

                    That's a given.

But political or not, with the current situation with other major powers, whoever is appointed should be the best we have.
