I really dont understand why there is so much. Is it cultural (whether in the black or white or spanish communities)? Access to guns? Breakdown of family?

I promise you, there are more guns than people in the community where I live. We've had one murder by firearm in the last thirty years.

Yes, that doesn't sound right.
If he did say something like that, maybe it was meant on a global scale, armed countries rather than armed individuals.

IOW, not an actual quote, but a stretch of a paraphrase, applied to two widely different situations.
