The email was sent to my correct full name, so I suppose it was not random bulk email but for whatever reason actually directed at me.
Dear Dr XXX,
I am currently supporting a client who is looking to speak with Paediatricians who have experience treating Neonatal Lupus
Given your experience in this field, I thought you might be a strong candidate to participate in this project. This would take the form of a telephone call lasting up to 1h, for which we will reimburse you at a rate of 150EUR per hour. We are hoping to have these calls completed by Dec 15th.

That’s a real industry (buying time with experts).
The rate is a little on the low side, you can ask for more.
($1000 is pretty typical for corp execs, the company that organizes it keeps half)
Look up GLG, I think they just went public.

Ha! I spoken to people through services like this. A small, but still surprising, number of experts have no expertise.
