Sean Payton has said depth is important for a team that plays on artificial turf, since injuries are 30% higher than playing on natural grass.

Two questions:

1. Should the NFL mandate grass fields?

2. If so, how does that fundamentally change the game?

No-go. Even today when most stadiums are no longer Multi-Sport, they are still Multi-Use. Heinz Field hosts the Steelers, the Pitt Panthers, Concerts and Events, and the WPIAL High School Football Championships. They've already replaced the terf twice this season. Grass would be mud and dirt by this point...

Injuries are the worst part of being a fan, IMO. You have your favorite players and you look forward to seeing them perform, but too often they are not available and you just end up rooting for a helmet. Which is fine, but not the same. Anything to reduce injuries I would be for, as a fan. Not than I am a fan anymore, largely due to the injuries and the frustration as a fan they gave me.

Maybe there are reasons natural grass is a non starter, but if it was feasible, I'd be all for it.

I've played on both.

Turf is much faster. And it hurts when you hit it.
