Well, they were making it in 1906...

@mik said in Hay Larry - piano question:

I saw what purports to be a Mason and Hamlin A, serial number would indicate 1972. Do you have any idea when they started making the A?

I've forgotten a lot of stuff but I own a Mason Hamlin A that was built around then, so it's highly possible. Seems like the Model A was one of if not the oldest model in their line.

Thanks to both. The piano is from a church with an art case for $1599. Might go take a look at it.

Aeolian Mason's from the 1970's can leave a bit to be desired, at least as far as quality of plate castings, overall build quality, etc.

But...The bones are still there for a good rebuild, if everything I read is correct. An artcase at that price might make for a heckuva project...

That's right, I'd forgotten. The 70s era Masons were Aolean. So mine must be older, because it isn't an Aolean.

Geez... I'm so glad I got out of that business......

Does it have the A above the serial number? In any event that’s way older.

I've not seen a 5'4". I did drive to Dallas and let the wife wring out a 5'10". The pianos are made by Hailun, but there is definitely a tonal difference. The scale is different than the Hailun, and the plate is a little beefier. It's a darker tone, a bit more American than most Asian pianos.

It's a 5' 8. I don't remember if it had an A above it or not, and it's on the other end of the house. I'm too lazy to go back and look.. lol

Oh, that's the typical sizzle bullshit.
