Cheap Saw
-
My circular saw died. We refer to all of them as skilsaws, but mine is a Makita. I checked the price on a new one. $175. Ouch!
So I took the Makita to a friend of mine to see if it could be fixed, but not having a skilsaw around my house is like wearing pants with no pockets. So, I bought a get-by...
That's a Porter-Cable pce300, $53. Porter-Cable ain't what it used to be. Like a lot of brands nowadays, Stanley Black&Decker bought the line and cheapened it up, so as not to compete directly with DeWalt. But I'm betting it has to be better than something like a Ryobi. And unlike most cheap saws, it ships with a framing blade.
I'll let y'all know after I run it a bit.

And their routers were the absolute best.
They do make the saw above with a magnesium plate for about $70, which would be better. One thing it does have, that many cheap saws don't have, is metal blade guards...Having seen a carbide tip go flying, I want metal between me and the blade, not plastic.
