A bad cat day today
-
D4 has had her cat, "Addy" since she was a kitten. Addy has been with D4 for 14 years.
You couldn't ask for a better cat. Tolerant of everyone, never, EVER, aggressive. No bites, no claws, no hisses.
In the last 2 months, Addy's been vomiting. She's also been losing weight. So, D4 took her to the vet about 3 weeks ago. Blood work revealed what's probably pancreatitis (I guess this is pretty common in cats). She's anemic as well. At that time she had an abdominal ultrasound.
After several ups and downs, D4 ended up hospitalizing Addy this weekend. Yesterday, she was a bit better at the vet's, so she brought her home.
And that's when the decline started.
Over the last 36 hours, Addy's struggled. Struggling to breathe, not falling asleep, and just refusing to let go.
Today, we learned the results of the ultrasound - there is a mass in her liver. Probably incurable.
D4 made the decision that it was time, and Addy was euthanized at about 4:30 this afternoon. We babysat G2 when she and SIL took her in. Mrs. George noted that Addy seemed cachectic, and yet, her belly was still full. My guess is ascites as a result of her liver disease.
So, anyhow, RIP, good cat. Sweet, friendly, calm and tolerant. You couldn't ask for a better pet that you've had for almost half of your life.
When G2 was about one year old...

D3 cooments:
You know, I’ve done this 4 times in the last 7 years and it never gets easier. It’s a shitty shitty feeling. One thing that’s helped me get through it is thinking of how crappy their life would have been without you adopting her. You did great with her.
Remember, D3 was Mr. Whiskers’ mom.

Losing friends hurts.

Sorry to hear that, but probably was best for Addy. I remember reading something about how animals live very much "in the moment". And when they are in very terrible pain/health, it is not fair to prolong things for them.
But still, it is a very tough thing to lose a pet.
