My father was not a veteran of any army. At his age, he was too busy trying to survive the German, and subsequent Soviet occupations of his country.

My grandfather, 2 cousins, and uncle were all army.
I remember chatting with my cousin over AIM when he was in Afghanistan:
"So what are you up to today?"
"We go around, looking for insurgents."
"What's that entail?"
"Drive around, and wait to get shot at. Whoever shoots at you is an insurgent."I mean, what do you say to that?
