Veteran's Day

Over on FB, everyone is posting pics of their family members who have served in the military.

Tip o' the hat and a hearty "Thank you!" to all veterans.

My father was not a veteran of any army. At his age, he was too busy trying to survive the German, and subsequent Soviet occupations of his country.

However, here's my paternal grandfather in about 1938:

Man, those are rad photos you guys. Have any stories?

My grandfather, 2 cousins, and uncle were all army.

I remember chatting with my cousin over AIM when he was in Afghanistan:
"So what are you up to today?"
"We go around, looking for insurgents."
"What's that entail?"
"Drive around, and wait to get shot at. Whoever shoots at you is an insurgent."

I mean, what do you say to that?
